President’s Blog

September 2017

Hello everybody.  Thank you for taking the time to check out the Nevada Chapter of APCO International’s website.  We are very proud of the work we do as Public-Safety Telecommunicators and of the critical service we offer to our communities.  Being there for people who are in crisis and who are reaching out to us for help is not always easy, but it always matters.  And having a job that matters and makes a positive difference in people’s lives is…well…it’s pretty cool!

The NV Chapter is always striving to focus on the roles of those in the Public-Safety Communications field.  We are working towards providing training in the form of Webinars, written material available on our website, and links to training provided by APCO Intl.  You’ll be seeing lots of changes to our website over the next few months and upcoming year and we hope to get your feedback on what you think works well and what needs improvement.  It can be a slow process, but thanks to the tireless efforts of our WebMaster Matt Grogan, we are making great strides and are marching steadily forward.

We’ve already received some great suggestions about what members would like to see and we are actively working to incorporate those ideas.

As hopefully you all know, our chapter will be hosting the 2018 APCO International Convention in Las Vegas August 5th through the 8th.  While you will be hearing a lot about it in the upcoming months, we want to make sure you start thinking about becoming a volunteer at the convention.  Volunteers receive a day pass for every 4 hour block of volunteer time worked, a behind the scenes look at what it takes to put on an event of this size, the right to put a volunteer ribbon on your convention badge, AND you get a collectible volunteer shirt!  We will keep you updated with the details on how to sign up and what it means to be a volunteer.

Once again, thanks for stopping by and I’ll be typing at ya soon!

-Elliott
